Carboplatin Treatment for Mesothelioma

Some patients might need to stay in a hospital overnight if the doctor deems necessary for more frequent sessions or a combination with other drugs.

Side effects of carboplatin may include less severe degrees of constipation, impaired hearing or vision, loss of appetite, loss of hair, mild fatigue, nausea, stomach pain and vomiting.

Patients who are under Carboplatin treatment may become more vulnerable to infection because of the reduction of the functions of the immune system. They are therefore advised to steer clear of sick individuals, even colds lest they contract sickness that may complicate their situation.

Kidney damage is another side effect of Carboplatin. Patient may experience difficulty or pain during urination or the presence of blood in the urine.

Any occurrence of these side effects, no matter how insignificant in terms of degree, must be communicated to your physician. A proper documentation will also be very helpful for future reference, as well as to keep you organized while under treatment.

Asbestos Fiber Poisoning

Comments (0)

When a substance with asbestos content is disturbed or broken down, its fibers are discharged and remain suspended in the air. Anybody that breathes these fibers in may experience asbestos poisoning.

Asbestos fibers are very fine, almost 1200 times finer than human hair. So even when there is already a very large quantity of asbestos fibers in the air, they are hardly noticeable. A lot of individuals have breathed in asbestos fibers daily, sometimes for years, without even being aware of it.

Fatal Diseases Caused by Asbestos Poisoning

Serious, even life-threatening conditions can happen as a result of asbestos poisoning. Some of these are:

When Lung Cells Go Wild

Comments (0)

Smokers at all times tell that they aren't going to end smoking because cigarettes have no bad effects in their health. Maybe they are true with what they say. I've seen a lot of people who smoke and they are healthy and vigorous.

This may only be accurate for years but always remember that pay off time will come and all the nicotine and other carcinogens that you have deposited to your body will trigger cancer cells leading to LUNG CANCER.

You will not be able to become aware of it at first. There will be difficulty of breathing. Hemoptysis or coughing out of blood smudge sputum will be manifest. There will be weight loss. You feel exhausted all the time because the oxygen levels in your blood is depleting gradually and later on in an abrupt manner.

You might ignore these symptoms because you are still in the denial that lung cancer is a possibility if you smoke so hard or even if you just smoke a little but it has been for years. Smoking is the single most dominant causative factor of smoking. Other environmental and occupational factors are just unlikely cause of the disease.

As carcinogens attack one cancer cell to another, the function of these alveoli will be changed. And here comes cellular replication. Malignant cells will only produce after its own. When it divides - there comes again a new group of nasty cells.

But this isn't the end of the scenario. Malignant cells are capable of travelling. The lungs are bounded by capillaries that are used for transmission of oxygen. These capillaries contain blood. The cells of the lungs can make use of the blood inn able to travel to other parts of the body. The liver is the most vulnerable site of metastasis.

Hematogenous spread of cancer cells is very quick. When treatment comes, chemotherapeutic agents will not just destroy the cancer cells but also the normal cells. Thus, there will be blood dyscrasias. The white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets will come to depletion. The client is immunocompromised, has bleeding tendencies, and worst has low levels of oxygen.

Let metastatic lung cancer be stoppable through prevention!

Mesothelioma Treatment Tips

Comments (0)

Malignant mesothelioma is the cancer of the mesothelium. Mesothelium is the protective lining that covers most of the internal organs of the body. The most common type is pleural mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma is the cancer of the linings of the lungs. We also have peritoneal mesothelioma, endothelial mesothelioma, e.t.c.

Just like any cancer, treatment of malignant mesothelioma depends on location of the cancer, age of the patients, extent of the cancer and overall health status of the mesothelioma patient.

Among the various ways of treatment are:
1) Mesothelioma Surgery: the lining of the affected organ is removed. This method is best recommended when used in combination with others.
2) Mesothelioma Radiation: this involves directing radiations such as UV light to affected linings.
3) Mesothelium Immunotherapy: This involves boosting the immune system against the cancer cells using some substances like Bacillus Calmette- Guerin (BCG), interleukin, e.t.c.
4) Mesothelium Chemotherapy: Here, some chemicals are used to treat mesothelium. Examples of these chemicals are Cisplatin, Raltitrexed, pemetrexed, folate, vitamin B12, e.t.c.
5) Administration of Lovastatin. Lovastatin significantly lowers the cholesterol level of the body.
6) Early detections is very important in the effective treatment and recovery of mesothelioma. This also applies

to most cancer cases.
7)Photodynamic treatment where a photosensitive medication is activated using a laser. This is done during the surgical removal of cancerous tissues.
8) Finally, engage the services of a mesothelioma lawyer. The mesotheliomal lawyers can help you source for funds from the government. The patient can then use this money to go for adequate treatment or prognosis.

The 4 Main Types of Mesothelioma - A Closer Look at How They Are Different

Comments (0)

Mesothelioma is the general term used for any type of cancer that occurs in the mesothelium, which is the tissue that surrounds one's vital organs. While all forms of mesothelioma are a result of exposure to asbestos, a toxic chemical found in many locations, there is more than one type of this form of cancer.

As the mesothelium tissue can be found in many parts of the body, the cancer that develops in this tissue can also be found in different areas. Accordingly, there are four types of mesothelioma currently recognized by medical professionals: testicular, pericardial, peritoneal, and pleural. These names refer to the area of the body in which the cancer is concentrated.

Testicular Mesothelioma

Testicular refers to the testicles, so this form of mesothelioma affects the tissue found in this part of the male anatomy. This is the least common form of the disease, and as such, there is not a great deal of information available on prevalence statistics or common treatments. There have been less than one hundred cases of this type of mesothelioma reported at this point.

Pericardial Mesothelioma

Also one of the more rare forms of mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma affects the mesothelium found around the heart. The symptoms, which include a persistent cough, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, problems breathing, and chest pain, are difficult to differentiate from those of pleural mesothelioma.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma

The peritoneum refers to the lining of the abdominal cavity, which is why the cancer that occurs in this tissue is referred to as peritoneal mesothelioma. This cancer affects the tissues surrounding the organs found in the abdomen, including the stomach and intestines. Peritoneal mesothelioma is more common than either testicular or pericardial mesothelioma, accounting for somewhere between ten and twenty percent of the total number of mesothelioma cases reported. Some symptoms of this form of cancer include pain or swelling in the abdomen, bowel issues, anemia, problems breathing, nausea, blood clotting, loss of appetite, vomiting, and chest pains.

Pleural Mesothelioma

Approximately three quarters of all mesothelioma cases are pleural mesothelioma, making this the most common type of the disease. This type of cancer is concentrated in the tissues around the lungs and those that line the cavity in which the lungs are located. Patients with pleural mesothelioma notice symptoms because fluid builds up between the wall of the chest cavity and the lungs, which makes it harder for the lungs to function properly. Common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include finding it hard to breath, pains in the chest area, and a persistent cough.

Each of these four types of mesothelioma is a serious condition. If you or someone you care about may have any form of this cancer, it is important to seek qualified legal advice from mesothelioma attorneys who have experience in this complex area of the law.

Mesothelioma Advice For Mesothelioma Patients And Their Families

Comments (0)

A diagnosis of or even the suspicion of mesothelioma can bring with it a feeling of dread and fear that may it difficult to make the decisions that need to be made. At such times having access to sound mesothelioma advice can be priceless. Some information about the disease can sometimes be helpful.

Exposure To Asbestos And Mesothelioma

Asbestos is a name referring to six naturally occurring silicate minerals. Mesothelioma is a cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos at some point in the patient's past. Most often that exposure came from exposure on the job. Many industries utilized asbestos and in some cases endangered their workers. Some of these were shipbuilding, and some of the construction fields such as plumbing, or electrical workers.

Mesothelioma Symptoms

If you have a history of exposure to asbestos in your past, or if someone you were close to (physically - such as lived in the same house, etc.) had exposure then here are some symptoms to be conscious of. Lumps or abdominal swelling Shortness of breath along with abdominal pain Unexplained weight loss Loss of appetite Nausea Fever Night sweats Persistent cough Blood in the sputum None of these are necessarily caused by mesothelioma, and symptoms of mesothelioma are similar to other cancers, but any of these symptoms combined with a history of exposure to asbestos may mean that it may be a good idea to consult a physician.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis

The tools for the diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer are the same as those for the diagnosis of any cancer. The principle difference is the history of exposure to asbestos. Testing by use of x-rays and blood tests are first steps. There may be further testing by using CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans. It may be necessary to obtain fluid from the lungs or within the abdomen. This is when it is sound advice to have the services of a physician with experience in the diagnosis of asbestos cancer mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Treatment

When a diagnosis of mesothelioma has been made, decisions will have to made about treatment options for malignant mesothelioma. As in the diagnosis of this disease it is important to find a physician experienced in the treatment of mesothelioma. While there is no cure yet, an experienced doctor may be able to give a patient more time with their loved ones and friends. Treatment is normally surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or a combination of these. Some of the factors involved in deciding ona course of treatment are what stage the cancer is, the size of any tumors, and the age and general health of the patient. Sometimes more than one specialist will be consulted to help decide the best course of treatment.

Mesothelioma And Your Rights

Mesothelioma is almost always associated with asbestos exposure. In the past some employers were less than candid about the dangers their employees were being exposed to. The result has been that in many cases these employers have been held responsible for the damage done to their employees' bodies.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, you should consult an attorney to explore whether or not you or your family may be entitled to compensation. The first thing to do is find an attorney who has experience pursuing a mesothelioma lawsuit against large corporations and dealing with a sometimes overwhelming and confusing legal system. Try to find an attorney who will treat you with concern and respect. You need someone with an appreciation of what you and your loved ones are experiencing, and who will provide you with all the information and guidance that you need.

Once you have chosen your attorney, you will go through your history. You will review any incidents of asbestos exposure. An experienced attorney will be able to help you remember these incidents. All of this is to lead to a mesothelioma settlement to help you or your family cope with the expenses and pain caused by your exposure to asbestos which led to your mesothelioma. Thousands of workers were exposed for many years and in some cases the companies they were working for knew that there were severe health issues associated with exposure to asbestos, yet they did little or nothing to protect their workers.

Want a Bigger Penis? 2 Tips That Can Help You Make Your Erection Bigger Naturally

Comments (0)

A bigger penis is not impossible to get, but it isn't an overnight process, either. If you have a small erection, then I'm guessing you really want to do something about it. The good news is that you can make your penis bigger, and you can do it without any crappy pills and pumps.

The First Tip- Never Buy Pills!

Most guys, if they're really small, are willing to try anything, and this is exactly what the penis pill companies prey on. They know that they can make outrageous promises that they can't back up, and that they'll get away with it.

Most guys are weary of pills, and they have a right to be- because they don't work. Your penis is tissue and ligament, and pills merely contain herbs and supplements, neither of which can't help to make your penis bigger. If you want to get longer and thicker, you have to physically stimulate your penis in specific ways that will cause actual growth of the penile tissues.

The Second Tip- Do Penis Exercises

Penis exercises are a real way to make your penis bigger. They use science to make you bigger, not magic. Your manhood is primarily tissue and ligament, and both of these things determine the size of both your flaccid and erect penis. It's truly this simple. The more tissue present in your penis, the bigger you will be. So how can we take advantage of this fact to get a bigger penis for life?

Doing penis exercises will cause tissue growth in your penis through very simple cellular division. This is possible because you can use your hands to hold your penis in unique ways while applying pressure to the parts of your penis that are most important. The pressure is painless, but the stimulation is just enough to cause growth within the tissues.

The most important tissues are two chambers that hold blood in the penis to make you erect. The goal is to enlarge these chambers so that more blood can be held in your manhood. Once this is accomplished, your penis is now bigger for life.

Doing These Exercises Guarantees You 1-3" Inch Gains!

http://www.IsMyPenisSmall.com contains the best and most effective penis exercises available anywhere!

Pericardial Mesothelioma - Pierces the Heart 'til Death

Comments (0)

Pericardial mesothelioma or mesothelioma of the pericardium is the rarest of all types of mesothelioma. It comprises 5% of all reported and documented cases of mesothelioma. Aside from being the rarest, it is also the most painful type since it pierces the heart until the patient dies.

The heart, an organ responsible for blood circulation, needs to move constantly and properly. And since it constantly pumps blood, constant lubrication is required. The lubrication comes from the thin layer of mucous that surrounds it.

The protective sac that provides lubrication and protection to the heart is called "pericardium". Although there is no definite explanation why asbestos fumes reach the outer lining of the heart, it is believed that they enter the body through breathing and traveled through bloodstream. In fact, one of the reasons why pericardial mesothelioma is the rarest type of mesothelioma is because patients who are exposed to asbestos can easily have pleural mesothelioma. Asbestos fumes, if there are lots of them, will damage the pleura before they can damage the pericardium. In layman's term, asbestos fumes that reach the heart are just the excess fumes from the lungs.

Just like any other types of mesothelioma, asbestos fibers will shred the protective lining that protects the certain vital organ, in this case, the pericardium. Irritation over a long period of time will help the growth of cancerous cells and kill the healthy ones. Tumors will then start to show up and grow larger in size. Unfortunately, symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma start to show when cancer is in its most advanced stage living the patients and doctors helpless.

Common symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma include;

What is Pleural Mesothelioma and How it Affects Us?

The inner layer, referred to as the Visceral (or 'pulmonary') Pleura Layer covers the actual surface of the lungs closely and is connected to the entire surface of the lungs. This layer of the pleura is somewhat moist and gives the lungs a soft and smooth surface to allow for free movement within the outer layer (The Parietal lining).

Linking the Parietal and the Visceral Layers is the intrapleural space.

The intrapleural space is an area containing fluids that are provided by membranes. These fluids permit the parietal and visceral layers to move against each other during respiration as the lungs inflate and deflate, continuously.

Asbestos - As a Factor Causing Mesothelioma

Comments (0)

Mesothelioma is a complicated syndrome which is caused due to exposure to unsafe asbestos. This cancer spreads in the membrane surrounding the area of lungs, heart and stomach. It takes several years to detect the cause of this disease. Asbestos can be inhaled anywhere, in the place of work or in schools with asbestos walls. Even at home if the clothes are washed with asbestos there are chances of getting this awful disease.

Asbestos occur naturally in the environment in the form of group of minerals. Earlier its use was tremendous because of its strength, effectiveness and its resistance to heat. In 80% cases affected due to this cancer, the main offender is asbestos. When asbestos is burnt, hazardous fibres are released in the air. The linings of lungs build up cancerous cells due to the penetration of these fibres.

There are three types of this malady. The one which causes pain in the chest, chronic cough, croakiness is Pleural-mesothelioma, which many a times is diagnosed as pneumonia. The lungs are affected in this type of cancer. Pericardial-mesothelioma interfere the function of heart membrane followed by symptoms like rise and fall in heart beat, chest pain, and low energy level. The third type which hurtles the stomach cavity is Peritonial-mesthelioma. The symptoms can be pain and uninhibited growth of cancer cells.

Imaging equipment like x-rays and scans are helpful for the diagnosis of this ailment. Though a meticulous series of physical tests is carried out, to get more correctness, Biopsy is suggested. This includes a microscopic examination of a body tissue. Amongst the most recent tests, Mesomark is considered to be the faultless detection test. When the spread of the disease in the body is known, further treatment can be done fast.

Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are the common treatments for this disease. More often two or more cures can be combined to get better results. Surgery is not done in many of the patients due to late diagnosis. With the inventions in medical science, efforts are being made to make the patients live longer with treatments like angiogenesis, immunotherapy and gene therapy.

The treatment for Mesothlioma is high-priced. The patients or family members of victims, often find it unmanageable to go for doctors. Consultation from an Attorney can always help them to get reparation from corporations. Thus the fees for hospital, surgical treatments, chemotherapy and expenses for burial can be arranged with this.

Mesothelioma - A Cancer Caused by Asbestos

Comments (0)

Mesothelioma, a complex form of cancer is a result of revelation to the perilous mineral asbestos. Its cells multiply in the layers around lungs, heart and abdominal cavity. The source of this disease is mineral asbestos. This malicious mineral can come in contact anywhere in schools where it is used in walls, in industries or even at home if the clothes are washed with asbestos. It's very weird that the disease is diagnosed after many years of contact with asbestos.

Asbestos come about in an assembly of minerals in the atmosphere. It offers amazing resistance to heat. Earlier many industries used asbestos on a large scale as it is powerful and strong. It is found out that 80% of the cases are due to exposure to asbestos. This mineral when exposed to heat leaves behind fibres in the environment. The fibres once entered the membrane of lungs initiates the growth of cancerous cells.

There are three types of this ailment. The first type which can be misdiagnosed more often as pneumonia is Pleural-mesothelioma. It results in chest pain, persistent cough, gruffness. The second type is Pericardial-mesothelioma which damages the heart membrane. The heart beat gets irregular, there is pain in the chest and the energy level falls down in this type. Peritonial-mesthelioma is the third type which bumps into the membrane of abdomen. The symptoms are discomfort and rapid growth in the cancer cells

X-rays and scans are used to diagnose the disease. The strength of cancer cells is detected with the help of complete physical assessment. To get more precise results, Biopsy is done. In Biopsy, a tissue of any part of the body is examined under microscope. Mesomark is a modern blood test which gives flawless results. It is very necessary to get the knowledge of level of cancer cells in the body for advance treatment.

The common treatments for this malady are chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. It is preferred to combine two or more treatments for good results. The disease is diagnosed late many times so surgery cannot be opted. With the latest treatments like angiogenesis, gene therapy and immunotherapy doctors are trying to find some ways to make the patient live longer.

Mesothlioma cure is costly. Those who lost their beloved or those who are suffering from this cancer, it is painful to pay a hefty amount on treatments. It is always good to take advice from Attorney. These Attorneys help to get the remuneration from the business concerns. The various charges for clinic, surgery, chemotherapy, funerals can be managed with this.

Mesothelioma - An Intricate Form of Cancer

Comments (0)

Mesothelioma is an intricate form of cancer that grows in the covering around the lungs, heart, and abdomen. The disease is caused due to harmful mineral asbestos. Exposure to asbestos in the workplace, in schools where asbestos is used in the walls, at home while washing clothes with asbestos can lead to this dreadful disease. The most bizarre thing is that it is diagnosed after many years of exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos is a cluster of minerals that is present in nature. It is remarkably resistant to heat. It was used on a large scale in various industries due its resourcefulness and power. Asbestos contact, in 80% cases is responsible for the dangerous disease. Asbestos when heated releases fibres in the atmosphere. These fibres enter the membrane of lungs and lead to the development of deformed cancer cells.

This hostile cancer is of three types, Pleural-mesothelioma which affects the area around the lungs. The signs are huskiness, continual cough followed by pain in chest many times diagnosed as pneumonia. Pericardial-mesothelioma disturbs the membrane of the heart. Uneven heart beat, pain in the chest, low energy, are common symptoms. Peritonial-Mesthelioma crashes the lines of abdominal cavity resulting in soreness and unrestrained cancer cell growth.

The diagnosis of the disease can be done by x-rays and through scanning. A detailed check up of the patient is carried out to detect the growth of the cancer cells. Biopsy is the definite test for more accuracy as in this a tissue of the body is carefully studied with the help of microscope. Mesomark is a latest and unbeaten blood test for perfect diagnosis of this disease. Once the extent of the disease is confirmed the treatment can be started by the doctor.

The disease can be treated by several methods. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are commonly recommended. Combination of two or more treatments is preferred at most of the times. In many cases the diagnosis is too late for surgery. Efforts are now being made by doctors to increase the life span of the patients with new innovative treatments like angiogenesis, gene therapy, and immunotherapy.

Mesothlioma disease treatment is very expensive. For those who lost their earning members or those who are going through the trauma of this ailment, it is difficult to manage fees for the cure. In this case it is always good to seek consultation of an attorney. Attorneys help the victims to get their compensation from companys for hospital fees, chemotherapy, surgery treatments and expenses for burial.

Mesothelioma Cell Types

Comments (0)

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that is almost always the result of asbestos exposure. The longer a person has been exposed to asbestos, the greater his or her chances are of developing this dangerous disease. Once you are diagnosed with mesothelioma, doctors will try to identify the cell type so that they can better estimate your life expectancy as well as devise the best treatment plan for you.

Mesothelioma attacks the special cells that line the cavities and organs of your body, called the mesothelium. Typically, this cancer is categorized based on the location of the initial tumor growth. For instance, if your cancer starts in your abdomen, it is called peritoneal mesothelioma. However, doctors will also try to identify the cell type present in your tumor.

Mesothelioma cells come in two different forms, epithelioid and sarcomatoid. Epithelioid cells make up 50-70% of mesothelioma cases, and they are generally more easily treated than sarcomatoid. Under a microscope, they appear cubic or tubular in shape with a distinct nucleus. On the other hand, sarcomatoid cells are less uniform with a less distinct nucleus. They are more fibrous, and they tend to appear in oval or spindle shapes.

Interestingly, epithelioid and sarcomatoid cells are easily confused with other types of cancer. Therefore, it can sometimes be difficult for a doctor to identify if you have mesothelioma or a type of cancer called sarcomatoid carcinoma or sarcoma, or epithelioid mesothelioma rather than adenocarcinoma.

The last type of mesothelioma is called biphasic. In fact, this is not its own cell type, but actually a mix of the two other types. These tumors will have mixed chunks of either epithelioid or sarcomatoid cells. Although biphasic tumors are easier to identify as mesothelioma than strictly one or the other, this is actually the most deadly form of this cancer.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, no matter what the type, it is understandably a difficult and confusing time. For more information regarding this cancer, its treatment, and asbestos, please visit the Mesothelioma & Asbestos Help Center today.

Asbestosis Symptoms Guide

Comments (0)

Asbestosis is a chronic lung condition that causes damage to the tissue of the lungs. Asbestosis symptoms tend to begin to show after fifteen to twenty years after the initial asbestos exposure occurred. Some symptoms begin quite mildly but then become more sever over time- shortness of breath is a common example of this.

At first the shortness of breath may only occur as a result of physical activity but as time goes by it will begin to occur during periods of rest too.

A cough is another symptom of asbestosis, unlike normal coughs asbestosis coughs do not get better, instead they get worse.

Another symptom, of asbestosis is chest pain, chest pain can be caused by many other conditions so it is wise to see a doctor as soon as possible.

A less common symptom reported is a swelling and reddening of the fingers. This is called finger clubbing and occurs due to a build up of fluid in the fingers.

Your GP will ask you about the symptoms you are experiencing and probably listen to your chest using a stethoscope. If you are suffering from asbestosis then the doctor will hear a distinctive crackling noise as you exhale.

Your doctor will need to take a full medical history and will ask whether or not you have been exposed to asbestos, and whether you were using any protective equipment at the tie or not.

If you have suspected asbestosis then you will be tested using one of the following three methods; a chest x-ray, a spirometer test (which involves monitoring how much oxygen you can breathe in and how much carbon dioxide you can breathe out) or possibly a CT scan. A CT scan can pick up asbestosis even at a very early stage and give a detailed picture of what is going on it the lungs.

Asbestos related diseases is common in people who work in certain industries, asbestos law is now in place to both compensate asbestosis sufferers and protect people from future exposure to asbestos.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Life Expectancy

Comments (0)

Although peritoneal mesothelioma case is rarer than pleural mesothelioma, it is often more aggressive and gives lower life expectancy compared to the pleural form. Peritoneal mesothelioma may develop as an extension of pleural mesothelioma through the lymphatic system or stand alone as the primary site of the cancer.

Most people suffering from peritoneal mesothelioma failed to recognize the symptoms as they resemble flu symptoms such as nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain or fever. A change in bowel movement may occur once the cancerous tumor grows bigger downward, on the other hand if the tumor develops upward it can disturb the respiratory system. Pain in abdominal region can happen when the mass of tumor pressurizes the nerve fibers. Weight loss and swelling abdomen are other indications of this abdominal cancer, however when patients seek their doctors' opinions at this stage it could be too late as normally the cancer has spread and grown bigger in the peritoneal cavity or abdominal cavity.

Diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma is very difficult and there is no defined system so far that can differentiate the stages of the cancerous tumor development. When needed, TNM staging system is normally used to detect the cancer in stages.

Treatments for peritoneal mesothelioma are similar to what is used for pleural mesothelioma which may include chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. Although these treatments can't cure the cancer, they does provide a better prognosis compared to the pleural mesothelioma. The for untreated cases is 6 months to 1 year but with aggressive treatments patients can expect to live for another 2 - 5 years.

Despite of poor life expectancy, some patients with mesothelioma successfully beat the disease and live much longer than expected. Instead of weeping and waiting for the death coming they searched for alternative solutions and radically changed their lifestyles. That's how they managed to be the survivors of mesothelioma. Rhio O'Connor and Paul Kraus for example were given a few months only to live but they rejected the idea of giving up and were determined to survive instead. No matter how small your chance is, you should never
give up.

What is the Mesothelioma Life Expectancy?

Comments (0)

There are many causes for the spread of mesothelioma though the primary one is asbestos inhalation or ingestion. The other causes are also narrowed down to exposure to the radiation of x-rays and exposure to zeolite, a chemical. When a person is exposed to asbestos he or she can also get other diseases like lung cancer and asbestosis.

Causes of Mesothelioma

When a person is exposed to asbestos the fibers that are not visible to the naked eyes enter the body when the person breathes. When this happens, the cells mutate and it causes Mesothelioma after a long period of time. This can cause malignant mesothelioma and also dormant versions. The exposure to asbestos can be direct when people working in mines, construction sites, ship building sites etc work under structural roofs and environments constructed from the hazardous material. The exposure can also be indirect when families of person who is directly exposed to asbestos come in contact with the person. This exposure need not be for a long time; even a little exposure can have some lethal and unhealthy results.

Mesothelioma life expectancy

Mesothelioma is of three types and once the disease has been diagnosed the average mesothelioma life expectancy is only two years or less. There are many people who are diagnosed with malignant Mesothelioma on an annual basis and this number is increasing. The worst thing is that this disease manifests symptoms only after 50 years of being exposed to asbestos initially. Some of the symptoms include breathlessness, cough that is repetitive and pain in the chest and the abdomen. At times there is also severe pain in the areas around the abdomen and the chest.

How is Mesothelioma diagnosed and treated?

X-ray of the chest and complete blood count are the two ways in which the condition is diagnosed. At times a biopsy and Thoracotomy are also conducted. The first phase of treatment involves removal of as much of the infected area as possible. There is a surgery called the Palliative surgery which is done when the stage of the cancer is slightly more advanced. This is usually done when there is fluid retention in the lungs or when the tumor presses against the wall of the lung. Another treatment is to radiate the cancer cells and shrink the tumor. The side effects of this treatment is nausea, vomiting and also general feeling of fatigue. Another treatment is chemotherapy; however in this kind of cancer chemotherapy cannot do much.

The first thing to do is to understand that mesothelioma cancer can be treated and legal help is also at hand. If you are positive in approach then your body reacts to the medicine and treatments positively and this increases the mesothelioma life expectancy. If you give up then no amount of medicines and treatment or even the compensation can help. All you need to do is to contact your doctor and he will help you to get in touch with the many groups that exist to help and encourage people who are suffering the onslaught of mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lung called Mesothelium and thus the name. The main cause of mesothelioma life expectancy form a cancer is asbestos but when it becomes malignant mesothelioma then the causes could vary according to extent of exposure.

Options For New Mesothelioma Treatment

Comments (0)

With the expectation of finding a cure for mesothelioma, which none of the traditional methods were able to provide, new mesothelioma treatment ways have been researched and studied. Mesothelioma experts are optimistic that new and more effective ways of treating this rare cancer will soon become available to the victims of this asbestos induced disease. Some of the studies that are currently being conducted include the following concepts:

Anti-angiogenesis; this method is using special drugs that are targeted to prohibit tumor growth, by preventing them from building blood vessels. Unlike other treatments, anti-angiogenesis does not target cancer cells directly but impacts the blood supply which is crucial for the survival and growth of existing tumors and the development of new ones.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT); this is a new approach which is specialized on the treatment of pleural mesothelioma. However, studies indicated that patients with metastasized mesothelioma do not respond to PDT, whereas there are some moderately encouraging results in patients where the disease has not spread yet. By using the energy of light, PDT can target cancer cells to destroy them.

Immunotherapy; also known as biological therapy. Via this method, the body's own immune system is being strengthened in its fight against the cancer. The immune system plays an important role in the fight against any kind of cancer. But especially for mesothelioma, where the conventional treatments cannot provide a cure, researches have high hopes that immunotherapy could be the next major breakthrough in the treatment of this rare asbestos related health condition.

Immunotherapy for mesothelioma can be subdivided into two main categories:

1. Active Immunotherapy - in this process, cancer cells are being removed from the patient and then further evaluated in a laboratory, with the goal to develop a vaccine that can be then injected back to the mesothelioma victim In theory and unscientific terms, the immune system will recognize the vaccine as a danger and subsequently will do the same regarding the actual cancer cells.

2. Passive Immunotherapy; this procedure utilizes substances such as cytokines or similar agents to influence the body's immune system as to how it responds to cancer cells.

Gene Therapy; this method involves genetic substances to target cancer cells distinctively and increase their susceptibility to chemotherapy agents. One of the most promising gene therapies in the new mesothelioma treatment studies is the so called 'suicide gene therapy'. It basically forces the cancer cells to commit suicide.

All of the aforementioned new mesothelioma treatments are currently only available through clinical trials for patients who are interested.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Cancer

Comments (0)

The cancer of the lining of the abdominal cavity is called peritoneal mesothelioma. It is not as common as pleural form; it comprises an estimated one fifth to one third of all diagnosed mesothelioma cases. This report of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) approximates the number as 54.7% male and 45.3% female, with the age ranging from 65 to 69. The period of latency is shorter for patients exposed in asbestos, the symptoms appearing after 20 to 30 years from exposure; the usual latency period for pleural mesothelioma is 30 to 40 years.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms

At the time of presentation, symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma includes abdominal mass, abdominal pain, enlarged abdominal girth, fluid in the abdomen (ascites), distention of the abdomen, weight loss, fever, anemia, fatigue and digestive disturbances. For a few months before a confirmed diagnosis, some patients even complain of symptoms that are non-specific. Incidentally, peritoneal mesothelioma is found in a percentage of cases once the patient has other health complaints such as hernia, gallbladder or pelvic mass.

Doctors who have experiences in this field have noted that typically, patients have these symptoms six months to two years prior to the diagnosis. Men often come to the doctor complaining of a bulge in the groin (hernia) or around the belly button (umbilical hernia). For women, the first sign of a problem often occurs after a pelvic test when a tumor mass have been discovered.

In later stages of peritoneal mesothelioma, among the symptoms are increased occurrences of blood clots and obstruction of the bowel. There is a noticeable increase on the platelet count for 50% of peritoneal patients but this may be caused by various disorders, so this is actually of little help in the diagnosis. Low albumin level and anemia can also be among the symptoms.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Diagnosis

Peritoneal mesothelioma has two clinical types which can be differentiated with the help of CT findings, the "dry" type and the "wet". It is classified as "dry" when there are multiple tiny masses or one dominant localized mass and generally little or no ascites. The "wet" type has widespread small nodules, no dominant mass and a presence of ascites.

If fluid is found, the process of eliminating it is through paracentesis; however the analysis of this fluid has limited diagnostic significance. Normally, a definitive diagnosis may be obtained through tissue biopsy.

Staging

As there is currently no staging system for peritoneal mesothelioma, the most popular system for general cancer staging (TNM system) is used. TNM system has the following criteria: (T) status of the tumor, (N) lymph nodes and (M) metastases. Other general categories may also be helpful in order to determine the stage.

Category 1 - with a localized lesion that can entirely be removed (resected)

Category 2 - the disease is located inside the abdominal cavity on peritoneal or organ surfaces where there is a probability of removing as much tumor as possible (debulking)

Category 3 - the disease is located inside the abdominal cavity and invades organs such as liver or colon.

Category 4 - the disease extends outside of the abdominal cavity

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Treatment

In the past years, the effectiveness of surgery alone or intraperitoneal chemotherapy in the treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma were not proven, that is why multimodality treatment is becoming more popular. Debulking (cytoreductive) surgery is removing all or nearly all visible tumors and may be combined with IPHC (Intra-Peritoneal Hyperthermic Chemotherapy), intraperitoneal chemotherapy and radiation.

Removing all tumors is not always probable; the prognosis for survival can then be in accordance with the completeness of cytoreduction which is established by these criteria:

Complete cytoreduction

(CC-0): No peritoneal seeding is found within the operative areas

(CC-1): Nodules less than 2.5 cm carries on after cytoreduction which can be penetrated by intra-cavity chemotherapy; thus the process is termed complete.

Incomplete cytoreduction

(CC-2) Nodules with sizes of 2.5 to 5 cm carry on after cytoreduction

(CC-3) Nodules that are larger than 5 cm are found; or there is a merging of tumor nodules that are unresectable at any area within the pelvis or abdomen.

Some patients may have widespread disease where surgery is not considered as "potentially curative", palliative treatment may be done by debulking. Take note that specialized treatments should only be administered by seasoned doctors because peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare malignant disease.

Recently, a clinical trial discovered Alimta (pemetrexed) to be effective as chemotherapy agent on treating peritoneal mesothelioma, either on its own or combined with cisplatin or any platinum-based drug. This reflects the previous findings regarding pemetrexed medication of pleural mesothelioma.

Types of Malignant Mesothelioma

Comments (0)

A person who is exposed to asbestos inhales or ingests fiber that is not really visible to the naked eyes. Over time these fibers react with the body cells in a manner that they undergo mutation and cause malignant Mesothelioma. This exposure can be direct and also indirect, when family members and friends come in contact with the person who is exposed to asbestos.

Types of Mesothelioma

The first type of Mesothelioma is called Pleural Mesothelioma and this affects the inner lining of the lungs which is called the pleura. When the fibers of asbestos are inhaled they cause he formation of scars and damage the cells present in the inner lining. This leads to the onslaught of mesothelioma cancer. This is the most common type of Mesothelioma and the symptoms are breathlessness, pain the chest, retention of fluid in the lungs and blood traces in the sputum.

The next type of Mesothelioma is called Peritoneal Mesothelioma and it affects the inner lining of the stomach. This happens when the fibers of asbestos enter the body and interfere with the normal cells penetrating their thin lining. This is not very common, but the onslaught manifests in the form of symptoms that include pain in the abdomen, feeling of nausea, constipation, lumps of tissue in the abdomen etc.

The third type is the Pericardial Mesothelioma and this affects the lining around the heart. There are very few cases of this type of cancer diagnosed and the symptoms include chest pain, palpitations and mild cough.

Mesothelioma life expectancy

This is a very dangerous form of cancer and a person who is diagnosed does not live for more than two years. The danger is more from the fact that the symptoms only manifest decades after initial exposure to asbestos fiber. Though the main cause is exposure to asbestos, this is not the only cause. It takes about 30 to 40 years to surface after initial infection. But the main cause for worry is that by the time it gets diagnosed it is usually in the last stages. The Mesothelioma life expectancy is less than two years and this time period is very painful, mentally and physically. There are many doctors and surgeons who are constantly experimenting with treatments and prevention methods, feeling very positive that the Mesothelioma Life Expectancy can be increased to almost 5 years. If this is possible then it will be a great achievement in the world of medicine because as of today Mesothelioma is a 'dreaded' silent killer.

Benefits of early diagnosis

A person who has been exposed to asbestos at any point of time in life is always advised to get checked for Mesothelioma. Even if you are not directly exposed, even if a family member is exposed it is better to get yourself and your family checked for signs. Since it takes a long time for the symptoms to surface your current state of health is not a criterion. Even if you are completely fine now getting yourself checked does no harm. It is better to get checked before the symptoms show up because then it will be too late.

There are many types of cancers and most of them are the result of causes yet unknown. But Malignant Mesothelioma is due to the exposure to asbestos and Mesothelioma Life Expectancy is imperative to know the types of this cancer.

Symptoms of Lung Cancer to Be Aware Of

Comments (0)

Lung cancer is very common in people who smoke on a regular basis. The symptoms of lung cancer are generally associated with the chest and lung area, so it is easy to recognize them. Anyone who experiences these symptoms should visit a doctor as soon as possible to undergo the appropriate testing for diagnosis.

Coughing is one of the major indicators that someone may be developing this condition. If a smoker or former smoker develops a new cough, they should see a health care professional. Other clear signs are a cough that worsens over time and if someone begins coughing up blood. These symptoms are all serious causes for concern and someone who experiences them should not hesitate to have them examined by a health care professional.

Of course, if someone is having a serious issue with their lungs, they will experience shortness of breath. This issue is typically caused by either a tumor in the lung, blockage in part of the lung or fluid surrounding the lung. This symptom is often also accompanied with wheezing, which is caused by inflammation around the lungs and may indicate the presence of cancer.

People who have lung cancer may also experience a great deal of chest pain. This pain will come in the form of a persistent and dull aching. It is also possible that areas surrounding the lung with experience pain as a result of it. This symptom appears in about a quarter of the patients being treated for the disease.

People who smoke can greatly reduce their risk if they quit smoking as soon as possible. The symptoms of lung cancer are very closely related to the lung area, so they should be easy for someone who is at risk to recognize. If one or more of these symptoms becomes a constant issue, they should be seen by a doctor in a timely fashion.

If you feel you have been exposed to asbestos, you should immediately find an Asbestos Cancer Attorney. You should also be familiar with the process of removing asbestos to help protect yourself and your family.

Understanding the Symptoms of Esophageal Cancer

Comments (0)

Esophageal cancer is a serious medical condition. It consists of a tumor that grows in the lining of the esophagus. If the tumor grows through the esophageal wall, it can spread to different areas of the body and have a seriously detrimental effect. Though most signs do not appear until the cancer has already progressed, knowing the symptoms of esophageal cancer can help to know when to get medical attention.

Eating problems often occur in individuals that are suffering from this affliction. Many people experience difficulty swallowing. It may start with an inability to swallow solid foods and eventually progress into extreme pain related to swallowing liquids. Food sticking to the esophagus is another common symptom, along with a chronic cough or hoarseness.

Digestion can also be affected with the presence of this disease. Many people experience indigestion and heartburn and often easily regurgitate undigested food. Throwing up blood or passing blood through bowel movements can be a common symptom as well. In some cases, extreme weight loss may even occur.

This disease is also very painful. Though pains in the throat may be a seemingly obvious symptom, there are other areas that it may affect which can seem entirely unrelated. Back pain is sometimes associated with this condition. In addition, pain experienced between the breastbone or shoulder blades can sometimes be associated with this type of cancer.

Contracting esophageal cancer can be extremely harmful and even deadly, if untreated. Though most signs do not show themselves until the later stages, it is still important to be aware of the symptoms of esophageal cancer. Recognizing the signs of cancer is one of the best defenses against the disease. Knowing when a body is experiencing medical problems and needs immediate attention from a doctor is one of the best ways to ensure that every measure will be taken to treat the disease.

If you feel you have been exposed to asbestos, you should immediately find an Asbestos Cancer Attorney. You should also be familiar with the asbesto laws to help protect yourself.

Lung Cancer - Classification, Stages, Symptoms, Causes, Effects, Prevention, Detection and Treatment

Comments (0)

Lung cancer is caused by uncontrolled rapid growth of cells in tissues. This type of cancer is most common and results in more than a million deaths every year. This form of cancer is indicated by weight loss or coughing up blood or regularly going out of breath. It can be noticed on chest radio graph also called CT Scan. The treatment that one gets depends on the stage that one is in. Treatment of cancer include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

CLASSIFICATION

Lung cancers are classified after studying under them microscope. Classification is necessary as different type of cancer is treated differently. Large portion of lung cancer are carcinomas - malignancies that grow from epithelial cells. Lung-carcinomas are categorized into two types: non -small and small-cell lung carcinoma. Non-small cell lung carcinoma and small cell lung carcinoma account for 80. 4% and 16. 8% frequency of lung cancer, respectively.

1. NON -SMALL CELL LUNG CARCINOMA

The non -small cell lung carcinomas are grouped together as their prognosis and management are same up to some extent. They are further classified into three types: squamous cell lung carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and large cell lung carcinoma. Squamous cell lung cancer originates near a central bronchus. They account for 25% of lung cancers. Adenocarcinoma starts in peripheral lung tissue. The cases of adenocarcinoma are a result of smoking. They accounts to 40% of non -small cell lung cancers.

2. SMALL CELL LUNG CARCINOMA

This type of lung cancer is rare. It is sometimes referred to as "oat cell" carcinoma. Most of the times they originate from larger airways (primary and secondary bronchi ) and from there they grow at a rapid pace. This type of lung cancer if mostly associated with smoking.

SECONDARY CANCERS

These cancers are classified on the basis of site of origin like breast cancer but has spread to the lung. Majority of the lung cancers in children are secondary.

STAGING OF LUNG CANCER

Lung cancer staging is used to asses the degree of spread of the cancer from its place of origin. It is an important factor that determines the potential treatment of lung cancer. The degree starts from 1A to 4, 1A being best prognosis and 4 being worst.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Following are the symptoms of lung cancer: 1. Voice becoming hoarse. 2. Sudden loss of weight. 3. Feeling pain in chest region or abdomen. 4. Difficulty in swallowing. 5. Loss of appetite. 6. Running out of breath. Many of the symptoms mentioned above are non -specific. By the time they notice symptoms or signs, cancer has already spread from place of origin. Very few people with this cancer have signs at time of diagnosis, these cancers are noticed on routine chest radio graph.

CAUSES

The three main causes of cancer are: carcinogens (which is found in tobacco ), viral infection and ionizing radiation. If exposed, it causes changes to DNA in tissue lining the bronchi of the lungs. With more and more tissues getting damaged, cancer develops.

1. SMOKING

Smoking is the main cause of cancer. In one cigarette, there are 60 different known types of carcinogens like radioisotopes and nitrosamine. Smoking is believed to cause 80% of these type of cases. The risk is generally less in non -smokers. The time that a person smokes proportionately increases the chances of this cancer. There has been cases that if a person stops smoking, the damaged cells gradually gets repaired. In non-smokers, passive smoking is the main causes of lung-cancer. Passive smoking is one inhaled from another person smoking.

2. RADON GAS

The gas produced from breakdown of radium. This gas is colourless and odorless. Exposure to radiation ionize the genetic material, causing mutations that sometimes turn cancerous. Exposure to radon gas is the second major cause of lung-cancer after smoking.

3. ASBESTOS

Asbestos is responsible for causing a number of cancer, one among them is lung cancer. In UK, asbestos accounts for 2 to 3% of the total cases of this cancer.

4. VIRUS

Viruses are responsible for causing lung-cancer in animals. And research has shown of similar potential in humans.

5. PARTICULATE MATTER

Particulate matter has a direct link to lung cancer cases. The size and quantity of particles in air determines the risk of getting lung-cancer. If concentration of particles increases beyond 1%, then the chances of getting this increases by 14%.

PATHOGENESIS

Just like may other cancer forms, lung cancer is started by activation of ocnogenes or inactivation of tumor suppressing genes. Ocnogenes are those genes that make people more vulnerable to cancer. Ocnogenes are produced from proto-ocnogenes, when the latter is exposed to particular carcinogens. In k-ras proto-oncogene, mutations takes place which are responsible for 10 to 30% of lung adenocarcinomas. Tumor invasion, angiogenesis, apoptosis, cell profileration are regulated by the Epidermal growth factor receptor. Mutations and amplification of EGFR are common in non -small cell lung cancer. The basis for treatment with EGFR-inhibitors are also provided by Mutation and amplification of EGFR. Chromosomal damage can lead to loss of heterozygosity which can result in inactivation of tumor suppressor genes. Damage to four of these chromosomes:3p, 5q, 13 q and 17 p are common in small cell lung-carcinoma. The p53, which is a tumor suppressor gene, located on chromosome 17p is affected in most of the cases. c-MET, NKX2-1, LKB1, PIK3A and BRAF are also mutated or amplified. Various genetic polymorphisms are supplementary to this cancer. Some of them include polymorphisms in genes coding for interleukin-1, cytochrome p450, apoptosis promoters such as caspase-8, and XRCC1, which is DNA repair molecule. People having these polymorphisms are more likely to develop lung cancer on being exposed to carcinogens. The research has revealed that MDM2 309G allele is a low-penetrant risk factor for developing this in Asians.

DIAGNOSIS

If a person has reported symptoms that might suggest cancer related to lungs, then chest radio graph is performed in the first step. The test reveals the widening of mediastinium, atelectasis and pleural effusion. Even if there are no radio graphic findings but the hint of this is high because of things like the person being heavy smoker with blood-stained sputum then CT-Scan may provide the necessary data. If findings are unnatural in cells in sputum, then they multiplies the risk of this type of cancer. Early detection can be done by Sputum cytologic examination together with other screening examinations. The differential diagnosis for those patients who show irregularities on chest cardiograph consider cancer related to lungs along with non malignant diseases. These consider infectious reasons like tuberculosis or pneumonia. The above mentioned diseases can lead to lung nodules.

PREVENTION

Prevention, just like always, is better than cure. Steps in this direction have been taken by may countries by identifying carcinogens and banning them but tobacco, which is the major cause of lung cancer, is still common. Eliminating cigarette smoking is first hand target in the prevention of lung cancer. Steps to lessen Passive smoking have also being taken by banning smoking in public places and workplaces. New Zealand has restricted smoking in open places. A similar step is also taken by Chandigarh, India. Bhutan has criminalized smoking since 2005.

SCREENING

Screening is used to detect disease by doing medical tests when the patient is not showing any symptoms. Chest radio graph or computed tomography are the tests used for screening of lung cancer. But, results have shown, that screening tests for lung cancer rarely has shown any benefit.

TREATMENT

The treatment of lung cancer can be done in following ways, depending on the stage or degree of cancer:

1. SURGERY

If doctors have detected lung cancer, then CT scan and positron emission tomography are usually applied to check if the disease is placed and surgery can be done or it has moved to the point where performing surgery is not possible. Surgery can only be performed if spirometry reveals good respiratory reserve, but if it is poor, then surgery is not possible. Even surgery has a death operative rate of 4. 4% but that is because of patient's lung function and other factors.

2. CHEMOTHERAPY

Chemotherapy, along with radiation, is used to treat small cell lung carcinoma. Primary chemotherapy is also used in metastatic non -small cell lung carcinoma.

3. RADIOTHERAPY

Radiotherapy, with chemotherapy, is given when patient is not fit to under go surgery. This type of high intensity radiotherapy is called radical radiotherapy. CHART (continuos hyperfractioned accelerated radiotherapy ) is refined version of this technique in which a high dose of radiotherapy is given for a short period of time. When cancer affects a short section of bronchus, then brachytherapy is given.

EPIDEMOLOGY

Lung cancer is the most widely reported cancer. There are 1. 35 million cases every year and 1. 18 million deaths. Lung cancer develop among those who have a history of smoking over a long period of years i. e 50 years and above. In addition to smoking, passive smoking is also a factor that causes lung cancer. Even the emissions from factories, automobiles, power plants pose a threat to human health. Lung cancer is found to have a reciprocal effect with sunlight and UVB exposure. This is due to effect of Vitamin D, produced in skin during exposure to sunlight.

Why You Should Seek Asbestos Compensation

Comments (0)

If you've been diagnoses with an asbestos related disease, or are suffering poor health, and don't know why, then it might be due to having worked with or been exposed to asbestos.

Here's why you'll want to seek asbestos compensation.

1. Asbestos can causes respiratory illnesses that damage the lungs. Particles of asbestos that have been inhaled, cannot be broken down by the body, and so the lungs and breathing is affected.

2. Many people are, and might be affected, by being exposed to asbestos. It was used from the 1900s to the 1970s, and builders, shipyard workers, electricians, carpenters, painters and decorators could be suffering without knowing.

3. In addition, asbestos doesn't just affect those that worked with it, but even those who lived near asbestos factories, or washed workers' overalls. This means that there are potentially millions more people who could be entitled to asbestos compensation.

4. The disease can take around 15 years to take hold, and so is likely to affect older workers, or those who have retired. If you know that you used to work in an environment where asbestos was present, then you'll want to seek medical advice, as well as legal advice too.

5. The symptoms of asbestos related diseases are not immediately obvious. Generally deteriorating health, or chest pains could be thought of as just signs of aging, or due to smoking.

6. Chest pains are usually amongst the first symptoms, but can be attributed to many other conditions as well as asbestosis. If you are suffering from chest pains, then you'll want to be checked out by a doctor.

7. If you're having problems sleeping and breathing, and can't work out what it might be, then it might be down to your former job. You'll need to make sure that you have eliminated an asbestos related illness.

8. If you have been diagnosed with an illness caused by asbestos, then it can be eased using medication. Obviously the sooner the condition is treated the better.

9. In some cases, the asbestos can cause mesothelioma and cancer, which can be fatal. By getting yourself checked out regularly by your doctor, you'll be able to spot the signs, and so can do something about it.

10. Although it isn't easy to claim compensation for exposure to asbestos, as it can be hard to attribute blame as you may have worked for lots of different companies, it's well worth it if you're suffering due to exposure to asbestos. You'll be able to have a better quality of life, and the peace of mind that your condition is being treated. Dedicated asbestos solicitors are available, who are experienced and know how to get the asbestos compensation you deserve.

Now you know more about asbestos, and the misery it can cause, isn't it time for you to seek asbestos compensation?

If you want to know if you could be entitled to Asbestos Compensation, then why not speak to Fentons Solicitors? With plenty of experience with asbestos-related cases, you'll find out if you're entitled to asbestos compensation. Discover 10 Ways For Effective Treatment of Mesothelioma

Comments (0)

Have you been told mesothelioma can not be cured? Do you believe there are no drugs you can use for effective and quick mesothelioma cure? Do you think only expensive treatments are available for mesothelioma cure? In this article, I will be sharing with you how you can cure mesothelioma disease for good using my 10 simple treatments.

When thinking of treating Mesothelioma three things need to be looked at: the progression of the disease, position of the cancer, its age and the state of wellness of the patient.

Doctor who specializes in the treatment of such disease should be contacted and such doctors are called an oncologist and he will determine the line of treatment as it hard to treat it and in most cases the prognosis is poor.

Listed below are the 10 ways to treat this disease:

1. Using Interleukin 2 also known as biological therapy

2. Aggressive treatment like radiation in combination with surgical operation is prescribed for mesothelioma patients in order to control symptoms palliatively. Applying this sort of process could be life-threatening as traditional radiation therapy harms surrounding healthy tissue but research is ongoing on using radiation therapy using implants or Ultraviolet light.

3. Correction of the gene sequence that causes cancer known as Gene therapy. Replacement and knockout gene therapy are the two major types.

4.To get rid of all cancerous tissues, surgical operation may be applied and this is recommended if the diagnosis is done in the early stages. Occasionally, palliative operations e.g. thoracoscopy and pleurodesis, pleuroperitonial shunt, chest tube drainage and pleurodesis or pleurectomy could be advice by the doctor as these treat the symptoms of mesothelioma instead of the disease.

5.During the surgical removal of cancerous tissues, photosensitive medication is activated using a laser. This kind of treatment is known as photodynamic treatment.

6.Chemotherapy is another alternative applied and about 12-20% of patients respond to the anti-cancer drugs which destroy cancer cells and prevent their spread. As effective as this could be for cancer patients, chemotherapy is not considered to be a remedy for mesothelioma but it is aim at preventing the spread of the disease. Before surgery, this helps to shrink the tumor which is known as neoadjuvant therapy. Also, to relive the patient from any anguish and irritation by wiping out any remains of the tumor in the body after surgery. Doctors recommend premetrexed with cisplastin as they are now the standard care for mesothelioma as these drugs have shown positive results even with mesothelioma not treatable by surgery.

7.Use a cholesterol depressing drug like Lovastatin

8. Use of biological response modifiers which helps to stimulate the body's own immune system to combat the disease and this is also known as immunotherapy. This sort of treatment helps to regulate metabolic reactions that promote growth of cancer, prevent spread of cancer, block or reverse processes that lead to formation of cancer, alter cancer cell division and ultimately enhance the functions of the immune system.

9.For patients who have unrestrained fluid accumulation and acute discomfort stemming from it, fluid accumulation prevention is executed and this is done by the introduction of medicinal drug into the cavity by draining the fluid in the chest or abdominal cavity.

10.Use of surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy. This is also called Trimodal therapy. There are other types of treatment which focus on the patient's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being.

Do you think you can successfully get rid of your mesothelioma disease by just reading and applying these 10 tips? I don't think so. For effective treatment of mesothelioma click the following link to find out mesothelioma treatment option you can get.

Pleural Mesothelioma Treatments and Symptoms

Comments (0)

The most common kind of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma. It is a rare malignancy that builds up in the mesothelial cells that compose the mesothelium, which is a membrane that connects a number of internal organs. In patients diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, the growth of the tumor happens in the lining of the lungs, known as pleura or pleural membrane.

The pleura consists of two layers which support and safeguard the lungs and chest cavity that include the outer layer (parietal layer) that connects the whole chest cavity and the diaphragm, and the inner layer (visceral layer), which spans over the lungs. The disease normally develops in one of the aforementioned layers, but can spread to the other layer. Akin to other mesothelioma malignancy, pleural mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure.

Symptoms

When asbestos fibers get trapped inside the body and trigger the initiation of the cancer process, we typically see in a first phase a thickening of the pleural membrane layers (pleural thickening) that is specifically caused by the accumulation of fluids. Eventually, the amount of fluid that build over up over the cource of time will impair the respiratory system which results in complications to breathe normally.

Listed below are some of the symptoms of pleural mesothelioma:

What Are the Mesothelioma Risk Factors?

Comments (0)

What is a risk?

Risk is defined as the distress of the variation of one or more results of upcoming events from their anticipated assessment. It is a combination of the likelihood of an incidence of a perilous event or exposure and the rigorousness of injury or ill health that can be caused by the certain incident. In short, risk is the term used to mean a happening that possibly will cause damage in the future.

What is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma, more specifically known as malignant mesothelioma, is a rare type of cancer that builds up in the protective lining -the so called mesothelium - which embeds numerous of the body's internal organs. It is typically caused by the exposure to the hazardous substance asbestos.

What are the risk factors of mesothelioma?

The prime risk factor of developing this health condition is asbestos exposure. People working around asbestos fibers are among those with the highest possibility of being diagnosed with mesothelioma. Seventy to eighty percent of all diagnoses articulated that they had contact to asbestos. The rationale behind this statistic is based on incidents when a worker while taking out old asbestos insulation or during the mining process, the asbestos may have broken up into smaller pieces and spread out to the air as carcinogenic dust. If the dust was breathed in or swallowed, the asbestos fibers may lodge in the stomach or in the lungs, which can result into the origination of mesothelioma or other asbestos related diseases. Mesothelioma risk is thought to be greater for people who are in frequent contact with asbestos over a long period of time. It may take 30 to 40 years or even more for mesothelioma to develop as a result of asbestos exposure.

Other Potential Mesothelioma Risk Factors:

- Direct asbestos exposure. A person who has a direct contact to asbestos fibers at home or at work will possibly have an increased risk of getting mesothelioma.

- Residing with somebody who is exposed to asbestos. A person who works with asbestos can take the fibers that were attached to their skin and clothes back home to their residences. These fibers may put other family members at home at danger of getting sick. A person who works with asbestos must shower thoroughly to wash out the asbestos fibers and take off their working apparel before going home.

- Cigarette smoking. The threat of mesothelioma is greatly increased for smokers who were exposed to asbestos.

- SV40. A number of studies indicate an association between simian virus 40 (SV40) and mesothelioma. This is a disease initially started in monkeys. It is still a point of debate, and more investigation is considered necessary to find out whether SV40 adds to the peril of mesothelioma.

- Radiation. Several investigations suggest the development of mesothelioma caused by the radioactive material thorium dioxide, which was utilized in association with X-rays to make diagnoses of a variety of health conditions from 1920s up to 1950s. After numerous studies, thorium dioxide was acknowledged as a cancer cause and is not anymore use for that purpose.

The author Tony Ulrich was diagnosed with kidney cancer in October of 2009. In his research on what his cancer could have been caused by, he came across with data that suggests a strong link to environmental toxics, such as asbestos. Please visit his Kidney Cancer and Mesothelioma Risk Factor website for more details.

Due to asbestos exposure Asbestosis and Malignant Mesothelioma are caused. The condition also leads to lung cancer if not treated in time. Mesothelioma life expectancy reduces greatly in those patients who do not receive treatment on time.

Lethal exposure to Asbestos:

Asbestos appears in a naturally fibrous form and is basically recognized as a class of minerals. It is used in the manufacturing industry and has many other uses due to its properties of chemical resistance, heat resistance and flexibility. It is extensively used in ship building material, roofing material and building material. When a person is constantly subjected to the inhalation of the asbestos fibers for a long period of time, the asbestos exposure endangers the person's health.

The fibers are not visible to the naked eye. They are microscopic, and get lodged firmly in the lungs when they are constantly inhaled. The first manifestation can take up to 40 years to surface, with the least time span being about 15 years since the initial exposure. Health takes a beating with asbestos inhalation in the form of malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

Other cancers:

There are other cancers caused due to asbestos exposure too. Cancer of the kidney, oral cavity, colon, stomach and larynx are included. Cancer of the intestines, stomach and esophagus is caused due to constant exposure to asbestos fiber in the drinking water. Smoking and prolonged asbestos exposure are hazardous and result in lung cancer.

If smoking is quit as soon as possible, then the risk of developing lung cancer gets reduced greatly. Once asbestosis is diagnosed, mesothelioma life expectancy decreases in the presence of a cigarette smoking addiction. Those who smoke and have had prior exposure to the asbestos fiber should immediately quit smoking. Even those who have been subjected to low levels of asbestos inhalation over a long period of time can develop malignant mesothelioma. It is one of the most painful cancers of all.

After long term exposure to asbestos, the fibers get lodged into the lungs firmly causing asbestosis. This disease can be contained with early diagnosis and proper treatment. However, if it is ignored and/or it is worsened with further inhalation of asbestos fibers and/or smoking, it leads to lung cancer and subsequently decreased Mesothelioma Life Expectancy.

Prevention:

However small the job might be, when you get an old construction razed or renovated never attempt doing it yourself. Professionals are aware of the risks involved and they ensure that neither they nor you get exposed to the asbestos fiber or the diseases associated with it. Those at risk are those directly involved in servicing of brake and auto clutch assemblies, building renovators, ship breakers, ship and house building etc.

It was way back in the 1920s that the connection between lung cancer and asbestos inhalation was detected. When different variants of asbestos like crocidotile, amosite, chrysostile, and anthophyllite are inhaled, lung cancer is the lethal outcome. Those suffering from asbestosis develop lung cancer. The condition is now also being addressed by the keepers of the law with compensations that make the fiscal demands bearable.

Malignant Mesothelioma and Mesothelioma Life Expectancy many other related diseases like Asbestosis are cause due to asbestos exposure. This recognized human carcinogen is primarily responsible for causing lung cancer too.

Asbestos Awareness Can Save Your Health

Comments (0)

If you live or work in a structure built prior to the 1980's there's a good chance you could currently be at risk for asbestos exposure. This isn't good and you may want to take some precautions. A little asbestos awareness education can go a long way toward making you more secure in your environment. Knowing the dangers and safeguards in this area is a good idea for everyone.

Asbestos was used liberally in many types of pre-1980's building construction, when it was then determined to be a hazardous material and its used basically curtailed. It had many advantages when used in various building applications. It is lightweight, fireproof, strong and also non-conductive. It's been used widely in ceilings, floors, walls and, especially, in the insulation of pipes, duct work and heating equipment.

Despite all the benefits asbestos brought to the table it has one main drawback. It's a proven carcinogen. People with long-time exposure to asbestos have a strong chance of developing serious lung problems as they get older. This includes cancer.

Proper education regarding the dangers posed by asbestos and the precautions needed to ensure your safety is easy to acquire. It consists of knowing what areas in your home or workplace are likely to be a risk and how to address the current situation. In many cases the solution is to just leave the material in place without disturbing it. In other cases the asbestos will need to be removed, which is a very specialized operation. Workers handling asbestos are required to be properly trained and certified in dealing with this specific hazardous material.

Engineering and custodial staff face many hazards in the workplace but most of these are visible and somewhat obvious. Mechanical, electrical and chemical dangers are all routinely addressed and assigned regular maintenance schedules. Asbestos, however, is the 'silent killer' and is often present without notice or even peoples' knowledge of its presence. Symptoms of asbestos exposure aren't immediate and may take even decades to materialize but, once present, they can be deadly. Here's why.

Asbestos is a mineral or rock. But, unlike other rocks which, when pulverized are reduced to grains much like sand, asbestos breaks down into small fibers. Like little strands of thread, these fibers are so small they can only be seen through a microscope. And, because the strands are so small and lightweight, they are easily suspended in the air and, subsequently, breathed into the lungs.

Asbestos is commonly found located above some older drop ceilings and was used extensively for soundproofing different surfaces during construction. Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) need to be identified and isolated. Areas such as boiler rooms or HVAC closets that still contain asbestos should be marked as a potential hazard and entrance to these areas restricted.

Proper asbestos awareness training is the responsibility of every business that houses workers. It doesn't take long to make people aware of the potential dangers and prudent safeguards in this area. An ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure.

Why You Must Check Your Home For Radon

Comments (0)

Give Yourself a Chance

Radon is widely known in the home improvement industry. It's kind of one of those things that no one likes to discuss, because the danger is so surreal. You've probably heard of toxins being referred to as silent killers, and when it comes to radon; that's no understatement.

Maybe you haven't heard that much about radon or what you have heard has not been too convincing. Does radon seem to be some "new" thing that is going to cause cancer and end the world? Everything seems to cause cancer, but the trick is in knowing how to prevent cancer, before it begins. Not everything causes cancer. That way of thinking is just some comedian's way to laugh-off the seriousness of so many people contracting this fatal disease. But, it's real.

Radon is a proven carcinogen, and experts know more about radon than other carcinogens. So, if you were told to avoid a proven carcinogen, you know that you would. Please, this is important. Radon doesn't smell, it doesn't have a taste, and you can't see it; there aren't even any immediate symptoms. Radon has the ability to kill you without even giving you a chance to defend yourself, without even knowing, not even a rash! Radon is not only found in the air, but also in water, so be sure to have your well water tested for radon.

Although radon does not give you much of a chance to defend yourself or trace whether you have been exposed, radon testing and mitigation systems have been developed in order to measure the radon count in your home, school, or workplace. There are even ways to make these places almost 100 percent radon-free. Not only do you want the places where you spend the most time to have a low radon count, but you want it gone. Did you know that most people, who have cancer from radon exposure, did not get it because they were saturated in it; but because of a low radon concentration?

Don't let radon fool you into thinking you won't get sick, or that you and your loved ones have no way to protect yourselves. There are experts who know how to regulate radon levels, and provide you with the protection that you need.

Radon: Close-up and Close to Home

Radon is a radioactive gas that's a proven carcinogen. It does not smell. It is invisible. You cannot taste it if you tried. Radon does not choose favorites; it's found all over the U.S. and infects anyone in its midst. Although not everyone exposed will contract cancer, for those who are infected, the particles damage your lung tissue and will most likely cause cancer.

Where does it come from? Well, radon is the result of the natural breakdown of uranium and radium. Once these particles breakdown and turn from a solid into a gas, with every breath you breathe in, this toxic radon infiltrates your lungs and body.

According to the studies performed by Air Chek, Inc., Connecticut's New Haven County has an average indoor radon level of 3.9 pCi/L, which is 2.6 pCi/L higher than the national average. About 27% of homes in New Haven County have over 4.0 pCi/L -- the high danger level. But, even with a radon level of 2.0 pCi/L there is still a higher likelihood of getting cancer from radon than carcinogens in your water and food.

"We know that radon is a carcinogen. This research confirms that breathing low levels of radon can lead to lung cancer," said Tom Kelly, the director of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Indoor Environments Division.

What's Your Risk?

Radon causes about 15 percent of the world's lung cancer cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO.) And the EPA has discovered that radon is to blame for about 21,000 of the annual lung cancer deaths.

You can increase the likelihood of contracting lung cancer from radon by not monitoring: the amount of radon in your home, how much time you spend at home, and your smoking habits.
According to the Surgeon General, if you mix high levels of radon with smoking, you are in the highest risk group to have lung cancer. Together, radon and smoking are considered the top two lung cancer causing agents.

The WHO has also concluded that radon is not just a local problem, but a worldwide health risk right inside your own home.

"Most radon-induced lung cancers occur from low and medium dose exposures in people's homes. Radon is the second most important cause of lung cancer after smoking in many countries," said Dr. Maria Neira of the WHO.

Your National Guard Fights Lung Cancer

Comments (0)

I will do a little play on words with this article which I believe will help you to grasp what your vegetables provide to you in your fight against lung cancer. Now if you think of carcinogens as a terrorist group sneaking around our borders and trashing our cities then think of your cruciferous vegetables as your crack national guard unit that catches them before they do you any harm. Did you forget where the carcinogens come from and what they cause? They attack your lungs and cause you lung cancer.

What makes these vegetables like cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and especially your broccoli, such great body guards is their sulforaphane which is considered to be one of the most powerful cancer fighters found in any food. Do you get the picture? These vegetables will protect you and your family.

Your cruciferous vegetables also contain something that is called indole-3-carbinol (consider this your cleanup crew) and it repairs the damage that the carcinogens do to your cells before they can turn cancerous. Now are you going to eat your vegetables?

It is no wonder that some of the research has indicated that by you eating more broccoli and brussels sprouts it just may lower your risk of lung cancer by as much as forty per cent. I recommend you consume at least four - one half cups of these vegetables every week.

Now for some fruits to help protect you and please take note that they should all be in the color of red and orange. The colors seem to come from a type of carotenoid (an orange antioxidant) that seems to safeguard smokers. It will also protect non smokers. Why are cigarettes legal anyway? Anyhow I recommend a combination of these fruits and vegetables to be consumed seven to ten times daily.

Some other foods to be considered are salmon, sardines, mackerel, spinach, kale and beans; I did not want you to think that I only recommend vegetables and fruits. Lastly, if someone in your family smokes or you are around smoke a lot, please do yourself a favor and take some vitamin C supplements. I recommend 500 to 100 milligrams daily if you are frequently exposed to smoke. And as always you must eat well to be well.

I think. I read. I care. I inform. I coach.

My campaign to save you from lung cancer continues.
Get back to me.
To you wellness

Options to Improve Mesothelioma Life Expectancy

Comments (0)

The body is not able to fight asbestos inhalation or ingestion because of the nature of the asbestos dust and its fibers. The extent of internal damage strongly depends on when the diagnosis is made (at which phase) and the available and affordable treatment of mesothelioma. The chances of a better life expectancy are possible if the diagnosis is made early. The tumors spread throughout the body when a late diagnosis is made and then there is no alternative but to go in for pain relief treatment which is also one of the main treatment options.

Malignant mesothelioma is caused due to constant exposure to asbestos contained materials. The affected person may display obscure health problems once affected. With the advancement of the disease, the treatment becomes very difficult and life expectancy gets shortened. To improve mesothelioma life expectancy, early diagnosis and treatment becomes indispensable.

Chemotherapy:

Chemotherapy is one form of treatment for improving mesothelioma life expectancy. Two or more drugs may be administered at the same time. Cancer cells get destroyed in chemo treatment. Chemotherapy is also used to help shrink a tumor and also destroy cancer cells that almost always remain after surgery. It also helps subsequent immunotherapy and radiation to work better. Sometimes surgery is not an option and if the cancer cells have spread from the original tumor to the rest of the body, chemotherapy is the only way out. However, there are various discomforting side effects of chemotherapy.

Radiation therapy:

Radiation is another treatment to improve mesothelioma life expectancy and is given in a very high dose. It destroys tumors and reduces the spread of malignant mesothelioma. Several types of radiation are used in different ways to help in the treatment of the cancer. Radiation is also used for pain relief while treating other cancers, but not without its side effects.

Surgery and other therapies:

Parts of the body which are cancerous due to malignant mesothelioma have to be removed through surgery. The limitations and implications of surgery also depend upon where the cancer is primarily present. Along with the other treatment options, surgery is popularly used in conjunction. Before the cancer spreads throughout the body, surgery may be an effective option.

There are a number of therapies adopted in the research and trial stages. Immunotherapy is being investigated, where the immune system of the body is stimulated to fight back. The cancer vaccine is the main support of the active immunotherapy procedure. Passive immunotherapy involves the administration of immune system components outside of the body.

Another important development at the research stage is gene therapy. Mesothelioma causes a lot of damage to the DNA and this only complicates the methods of finding specific genes hat could actually help in tracking and killing the mesothelioma cancer cells. Nevertheless, research is on and it does show some promise.

Photosensitizing drugs are administered into the body intravenously in the photodynamic treatment option. To treat the cancerous cells, a fixed frequency light is used and the drugs are targeted at the cancerous cells. There are certain side effects to this treatment too.

Sometimes, but not always, mesothelioma life expectancy and malignant mesothelioma is caused due to exposure to asbestos containing materials. Exposure could take years to manifest - literally 20 to 40 years for the first signs to surface.

Filing an Asbestos Lawsuit

Comments (0)

The first lawsuits recorded against asbestos manufacturers were filed in 1929. From that time on, a lot of lawsuits have been brought to trial. Because of the asbestos litigation, and subsequently introduced asbestos alternatives, manufacturers sold off subsidiaries, and asbestos removal businesses started to mushroom. Asbestos legal action is one of the most expensive litigation acts in U.S. record wherein over 600,000 plaintiffs and 6,000 defendants were involved so far. Recent trends lead experts to believe an increased rate of people diagnosed with asbestos diseases in the next years. According to some analysts, the overall costs of asbestos litigation in the USA alone will sooner or later arrive at $200 billion.

Undeniably, is to some extent costly and complex but with the assistance of specialized legal professionals such as asbestos lawyers, the process is manageable.
Who can pursue a lawsuit?

Asbestos lawsuits can be filed by any person - or his family in case the victim has deceased - who was diagnosed with a disease or even died because of exposure to asbestos. It implies that individuals who had a direct contact to asbestos, and individuals who were indirectly exposed to asbestos, have enough legal grounds to prove that they have become victims of another's party neglect or misconduct. Oftentimes the victim files the case, but there are also instances where a family member of the victim initiates the compensation lawsuit. The compensation that is being sought via the litigation, is supposed to cover for medical bills, loss of wages, and may also include punitive damages. If the victim had died, family members are entitled to charge for wrongful death.

Where and who to sue?

Initiating an asbestos court case needs more than just going to the law court, file a complaint and fill up the necessary papers. There are a lot of courts who can settle an asbestos lawsuit. A seasoned attorney can give advice on whether to file a case with federal court, state court or through trust funds. Thus, it is advisable to get the expertise of an experienced attorney as the whole process can become highly bureaucratic and complicated.

Identifying who to sue is also an essential part of the lawsuit course. If an individual has medical records, proving that he was diagnosed with any asbestos associated disease, he must determine when and how he was exposed to the material. In most cases, asbestos victims were exposed to asbestos in workplace, thus the liable party is the employer or the company itself. Determining who to sue, and who is in fact responsible for your health condition because of negligence, is a crucial component of the lawsuit and requires a thorough investigation upfront.

Establishing evidence

It is imperative to gather the evidence necessary to file a lawsuit. This can include re-tracing the complete work history of who you had worked for, the workplaces as well as collecting evidence of your exposure to asbestos, by identifying the products that you worked with. Then you need medical proof that conclusively indelicate that you have an asbestos induced illness.

The author Tony Ulrich was diagnosed with kidney cancer in October of 2009. In his research on what his cancer could have been caused by, he came across with data that suggests a strong link to environmental toxins, such as asbestos. Overview of Malignant Mesothelioma

Comments (0)

Over a period of time, the world has witnessed variations of a disease that is caused by the frequent inhalation or ingestion of asbestos fibers - mesothelioma. The asbestos fibers are known to get lodged within the lung tissues. A variety of related diseases are caused due to prolonged and constant exposure to asbestos like malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis. The most fatal of these diseases is mesothelioma, which culminates in death.

Malignant mesothelioma:

This cancer affects the lining of the abdomen or the lungs and is today, not a very rare type of cancer. It is always caused due to the inhalation of asbestos, but can spread due to a weakened immune system too and other internal infections present during the onslaught. The effects of this cancer manifest approximately 20 to 40 years later and this is one reason why it is seen in older patients generally. If mesothelioma life expectancy has to be increased then early diagnosis of the patient helps in determining the right kind of treatment option on time. Of all the cancers, malignant mesothelioma is one of the most painful, aggressive and most fatal.

Mesothelioma cancer types:

The lungs are often the most affected parts of the body in mesothelioma cancer. It also occurs in the peritoneum in rare cases and when the asbestos fibers are inhaled, they also reach the bowel and stomach regions. Pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma are the two types of mesothelioma. The pleura or the lining of the lungs are affected in pleural mesothelioma and in peritoneal mesothelioma, the lining of the abdominal cavity or the peritoneum is affected.

Risk:

To improve mesothelioma life expectancy early diagnosis and treatment becomes indisputable. It takes many years for malignant mesothelioma to develop and manifest. If a person is diagnosed today for example, he or she has actually been exposed to the asbestos fibers about 20 to 40 years back! Those workers who previously had jobs involving prolonged inhalation of the asbestos fiber are the ones most affected by mesothelioma. During the early 20h century, there were not many safety guidelines with regards to the onslaught. Not only the workers themselves, but even their friends and relatives were affected due to the inhalation of the asbestos fibers from the hair, clothing and skin of these primary carriers of the fibers.

Prognosis and symptoms:

It takes decades for malignant mesothelioma to develop. Up to 15 to 20 or sometimes even up to 50 years, no serious symptoms of the condition may manifest in even a construction worker. And even if the symptoms do surface, they have a tendency of remaining inconspicuous very often. The patient usually displays bouts of fever, swallowing difficulty, and pain in the chest, shortness of breath, persistent cough and difficulty in breathing.

It becomes difficult to catch the onslaught in the early stages due to the vagueness of the symptoms related to malignant mesothelioma. The cancer is most likely to reach its advanced stages by the time the victim even goes through the primary diagnosis. This makes the prognosis poor and the situation pretty hapless. Depending on the particular form of mesothelioma cancer, the survival rate could be anywhere between 20-30%. To improve Mesothelioma Life Expectancy, early diagnosis and the timely treatment are absolute necessities.

Right from the 1800s asbestos has been frequently used and even overused. The overview of Mesothelioma Life Expectancy and Malignant Mesothelioma needs to be mapped from the 1940s to the 1980s.
